We digitally captured the stage of the Grand House at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe to create an accurate and immersive representation of the venue. The survey recorded the stage, stage machinery, technical infrastructure, and surrounding architecture in precise detail.
The collected data was used to generate a Gaussian Splatting model of the theatre stage. This approach enables the environment to be rendered with photorealistic detail while maintaining real-time performance in a web-based viewer. Unlike traditional mesh-based models, the representation preserves much of the visual richness and atmosphere captured during the survey.
The project demonstrates how Gaussian Splatting can extend reality capture beyond documentation. By combining an accurate digital representation of the venue with planned stage designs, it becomes possible to conduct digital "Bauproben" that support communication between artistic, technical, and planning teams. This creates a shared spatial reference for discussing design decisions long before physical construction begins.
