Project

Completed in the late 19th century, the station combined masonry construction with an advanced system of hinged iron truss arches. Its parabolic roof structure spanned approximately 62.5 meters, enabling a vast, column-free hall with an elegant and efficient load distribution. The prefabricated steel components were assembled on site and positioned using a specially developed launching method, reflecting the high level of engineering innovation of the time. To counteract the significant lateral forces of the arches, tension ties were integrated, stabilizing the structure without compromising its openness. Constructed within just a few years, the hall stood as a symbol of industrial progress and logistical precision before suffering severe damage during air raids in 1945 and being largely dismantled in the following decades.
